25 Random Things... by Susan Spicer Mason (Notes) on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 1:11pm

1. My greatest accomplishments in life are named Missy, Kimberlee, & Stephanie...

2. I am one of the funniest people I know and I laugh harder at my weirdness than anyone else does... So easily amused!!

3. PinknPurple is my favorite color, and yes, in my world that is a color..

4. I sing like it's my job and have the worst voice EVAH!! Missy comes by that honestly!!

5. I am four years old and if you doubt that just ask anyone who knows me... I will be 50 in March but I am old enough at four to know that I don't ever have to be five..

6. My heart is in a constant state of being broken by the sadness of the world...

7. I have the most amazing, loving husband.. He was SO worth the wait!!

8. I have multiple personalities and I am afraid of one or two of them.. They can be very mean and will absolutely beat the crap out of you if you give them no other choice.. I am not kidding either.. If they can"t do it alone, they have other Me's that they will solicit for help... DO NOT mess with my babies!! That is an excellent way to meet them.. :)

9. I love music and I turn it up ridiculously loud every chance I get... I blew a speaker in Missy's car once jammin out to Van Halen and Kenny Chesney.. She was not very happy..

10. If it sparkles or shines, IT HAS MY UNDIVIDED ATTENTION.. Birds have NOTHING on me when it comes to that.. Chuck used to threaten me with the guys carrying the straight jacket.. He claims that all he would have to do is tell them to put something sparklie on the front and that I would never even know I was being taken.. Trust me, they would give me back REAL quick!!

11. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the sky.. Even when, and especially when, it is scaring the absolute B'JESUS out of me...

12. I do not understand how anyone can live on this planet and not believe in GOD... I can't imagine the sorrows of his heart when he looks down here and sees the terrors and neglect being inflicted on his creations..

13. I am obsessed with numbers.. A quirk I have passed on to Missy.. I am totally facinated by the way they land in your life as though it was planned way ahead of time! I am an odd-number person and the only symmetry I can relax with is A-Symmetry.. Go figure.. My most recent, coolest find was in the fact that Missy and I both have double S's(twice) and double 19's in our names and birthdate.. I was sitting at a calendar one day and started counting off the alphabet.. Could not believe it when I realized that S is the 19th letter of the alphabet.. I still think that is just too freaking cool!!! I told you I was easily amused.. I just realized that this entry was #13.. One of my absolute favorite numbers and guess what I was talking about??? Couldn't kick the smile off my face over that!!

14. I never knew I could love anything as much as I love my children.. Then I met my grandbabies.. Steven Robert and Emberlynn (named for EMily, KimBERlee, and Stephanie LYNN) Grayce... My heart just explodes with awe when I'm with them...

15. One of my favorite verses in the Bible is St Matthew 7:1, "Judge not, that ye be not judged." It has kept me off a 'high horse' more than once.. Something I have always been grateful for after the fact.. The older I get, the better I understand why...

16. I believe in KARMA completely.. She has kept me from doing potentially stupid things to assholes that I know deserved it.. I don't want to piss her off by trying to do her job for her.. I am very sure that the people I have engaged in physical battle with, were with her blessing.. There comes a time when you have to be willing to fight to the death for what's right.. With that being said, GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!!!

17. I am a total tomboy and I love to get dirty and scraped up in some of my prettiest, sparkliest stuff.. I love being a girl as much as I love being a tomboy'.. I can thank my dad and my brothers for the love of that...

18. I am perpetually curious.. I want to know everything about everything.. Not 'everyone' either.. That is being nosey and is not my thing.. Yet, somehow, everyone tells me their secrets.. I guess that is a good thing.. It means I can be trusted..

19. I went to the Daytona 500 last year.. Most AWESOME event ever!!! I can't even find the words to tell how amazing it was to be there.. Mark became a tried-and-true NASCAR fan at that race.. He now watches Pro-Football with me and I am now a College Football fan.. We are such a great pair!!

20. My life list keeps getting longer instead of shorter, and I have managed to cross a lot of things off of it!! Even crossed off a few things that were NEVER on my list.. Like a cruise.. No thanks.. Until I got scammed into going on one with Missy and five other women.. What a blast!!!

21. I want to snorkel with the fishes again, like I did in CoCoCay.. I am truly forever affected by those silly little creatures!!! They were such buddies, swimming beside you everywhere you went, circling you when you stopped, even bumping into you as if to say, "Hey!! What's up?? Let's swim!!".. It was such an amazing, spiritual thing for me.. I have written two blogs about them on MySpace and I still tear up every time I read them...

22. I am easily distracted.. I have been sent many graphics talking about this.. They always end with "OH LOOK!! A CHICKEN!!", (or a butterfly, a kitty, something shiny...) Sad but true!! Richard amuses himself by saying "LOOK!! A CHICKEN!!" and watching me stop in mid-sentence to look.. I know it's coming and yet I continue to fall for it.. I am a mess... Believe it or not, I am a very accomplished multi-tasker...

23. I am highly allergic to routine.. My routines are erratic and unpredictable.. I mowed the same yard for 9 years in Ozark, and I am quite sure that I never mowed it the same way twice!! I may be in the same spot, doing the same thing, but trust me, I WILL figure out a way to change things up.. And then I meet and marry Mark, who, by the way, is the most routine oriented person I have ever known!! How hilarious.. I guess that's what 22 years in the Army does for someone.. We are such a classic example of "opposites attracting"!!

24. I listen to Christmas music year-round.. "If there is love in your heart and your mind, it will be like Christmas all the time.", Faith Hill, "Where Are You Christmas?" from The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.. The First Noel by N'Sync is playing on my playlist as I type.. One of my all-time favorites is Vanessa Williams' version of "Do You Hear What I hear?".. The long version in fact.. Going to see the Trans Siberian Orchestra is on my "life list"...

25. I love tools.. Any kind of tool.. Simple tools, power tools, gadgety tools....you name it, I love it.. Ok wait!! I am afraid of the table saw!! They are very mean to me.. I even have a few tools in my purse..

26. I also have several lights, many lip glosses, many pens, and anything else I might need to survive in my purse... It is usually quite heavy.. I have tried to weed "stuff" out of
it, but, that's just not happening so I have accepted it the way I keep it.. What I don't have much of, is actual trash.. I can find anything without looking!!!

27. I have a pouch/container fetish.. It's ridiculous how many I have and how many more I want.. I do keep them full of things, so there!!! I love STUFF!!!

28. I know the second I post this I am going to think of a dozen other things "I should have listed"...

29. I am the most RANDOM person I have ever met.. Hands down... Peace!!

29. It is Dec 16th, 2013 so I thought I would see if my randomness has gotten better, worse, or changed at all... This is what I found....

 30. Almost nothing has changed... On March 19th of this year I celebrated the 50th Anniversary of my 4th birthday.

 31. I just looked at the clock and it said 11:11 which means I just got a ton of universe kisses... :)

 32. I will fill in a few things I left out the first time... I eat raw dough or batter of ANY kind... Pancake, biscuit, dumpling, rolls... I left Kimberlee's house in tears about 10 years ago because she got mad at me for getting into the rolls dough... I made it all the way to Ozark before she finally said she was sorry enough and to please please come back and I could eat all the raw dough I wanted... :)

 33. If you want to send me to the absolute edges of sanity, please, leave a bazillion little marks on a "supposedly" erased board.... I am NOT kidding when I say it gives me a full blown anxiety attack and I can guarantee that if the opportunity presents itself, that board will be spotless in the blink of an eye...

 34. I am one of those Walmart weirdos that faces shelves and hangs things up..

 35. I am a sleep-eater which is hilarious and horrifying all at the same time... We used to blame it on pain meds and Ambien but my last 3-4 excursions did not involve either one of those!! I usually have the remnants of whatever I was eating under me when I wake up.... I think my Black Licorice/ Swiss Chz/ Bliss Dark Chocolate was one of the worst... My mouth is always packed with whatever I fell asleep eating..  I AM THE ODDEST EATER I HAVE EVER KNOWN... At any point during a meal I will have my cheeks packed with different foods... I don't mix them up, I just chew from one side then chew from the other... I have caught myself with a pulled pork BBQ sandwich in one side and cheesecake in the other... Chefs salad and cinnasticks from Pizza Hut... At a friends house a few weeks ago I had steak and asparagus in one side and cottage cheese with sugar in the other...

 36. I truly am a peacemaker and yet my reputation when the girls were in their teen-age years were me begging some poor soul to stop messing with me or the kids and 98% of my "tap-out" style fights have been with guys three times bigger than me and my children always had to pull me off the poor guy to save him... Brute strength is of no use when a freaking monkey has you on the ground in a choke out... Must be where Missy gets it from... Kim will just flat out fight you and Steph is terrified of it and could probably hurt us all!!!!

 37. My kids call me the "whisperer" because I have that calm nature (Seriously, what a post to follow 36!!!) about me that puts crazy people, animals, and babies at ease... I have in fact been the "white flag" between a gun and some ding-a-ling because we knew the gun holder would NOT shoot me...

 38. I lost my dad on Aug 15, 2012... He put a .22 under his chin and pulled the trigger.... I was sitting at a stoplight in Spfd with my mom and Steven and I felt his bullet go through my head... Didn't find out till two hours later what had knocked me to my knees so to speak... That is hands-down the toughest struggle I have EVER survived and I praise God every single day that He did not allow me to follow my dad off this earth.. I say this all the time but I just know he's at the Rainbow Bridge taking care of our fur-babies till we get there... This Christmas has been a rough one for missing him yet this Christmas I know where my dad is... Last year I did not...

 39. In the middle of all the madness, 2012 brought families back in touch that should have never lost touch, gave us a bouncing, knows what he wants when he wants it, baby boy named Ryker Stephen Magruder... Watching my "baby" give birth on Sept, 14, 2012 was another surreal experience... I truly think Richard and Steph deserve a medal the size of Texas for surviving that baby with the love and patience they did... He is a cool cool kid... NOW... :)

 40. I love fried chicken livers and will eat them cold out of the fridge at 3am... Yet i am the most ridiculously picky meat eater I know!!! I do prefer my steak warm pink instead of burned to a crisp so that's progress... Right?? :)

 41. See you in a few more years... :)

42. Feb 18, 2014... I guess I'll keep modifying this list as long as I'm breathing and keep remembering more ridiculous random stuff about me..

 43. Loose hair sends me to the ends of the earth... I probably turn my shirt inside out at least twice a day to find the ones that have been irritating me... And loose hair definitely feels different than connected hair!! I wake up in the middle of the night chasing one off my pillow... Loose hair all over somebody else gives me a full blown anxiety attack... I just want to attack them with a vacuum cleaner or something...

 44. I wore a tiara to my sister-in-law's funeral... I took care of her the last months of her battle with cancer and I wore my tiare every day which drove her crazy... It was only fitting that I would be wearing it when we laid her to rest.. Somewhere there is a pic of me at the cemetery with George and I have on a black dress, bright neon yellow crocs and my tiara...

45. I have looked down the barrel of a loaded high powered rifle, knowing the safety was off, and realizing if the person with their finger on the hair trigger of that gun flinched just a little bit, that I would die instantly... It was a life flash before my eyes moment... It was a very surreal experience... Not even ok 35 yrs later...

46.  I clench my jaw like it's my job and have since I was born... By the time I was 30 I had fractured every jaw tooth in my mouth and had destroyed the discs in my jaw hinge... My oral surgeon referred to it as a pit-bull's jaw...

47. I DESPISE DUSTING!!!! Before the job is even finished the dust is already resettling... If I could I would hire someone to come to my house once a week just to dust... :)

48.  I have to keep the surface of my toenails filed smooth or they will blister and turn purple as though they have been smashed... It is as painful as it looks... :(

49.   I am the only person I know who feels like their back surgery was a complete success... Thank you God for that!!

50.
The sheets getting pulled loose from the bottom of the bed will get me out of bed at 3am to remake the bed... Once they start wrapping around my ankles it's all over but the crying from Mark trying to figure out what I am doing at 3am IN THE DARK yanking sheets and covers back in place...

51.  At 17 yrs old I was comfortable enough on Chuck's 750 Honda by myself that I could have outrun any car on T Hwy or any other road in SouthWest Missouri that I was used to being on... Absolute truth.. Just ask Chuck... I had a car turn in front of me on the east side of Bradleyville bridge, on that same bike, with my cousin Penny Parker on the back... I went from 60mph to stopped in about 15 ft without having to lay the bike down... The skid marks were there for over a year...

52. I am an Annie Oakley once I get used to a gun... Pretty scary good with a blow gun and a sling-shot too... Haven't got to do any archery but it is on my to-do list...

53.
What are your PHOBIAS????  Mine are; Deep dark waters, CLOWNS, roaches ( the kind that crawl)(baahahahahahaha), unclean hands that touch something I have to touch immediately after, spiders in my house, footsteps walking toward me with nothing visible making them (Yes, more than once!!), the Mississippi River... Been terrified of it since I can remember... My mom was born and raised in Vicksburg and we spent many a holiday and vacations there... I used to think it was the old bridge... Then came the new one and I was still petrified.. So, I thought it must be bridges... Then several years ago I realized the only time I panicked was if we were going over the Mighty Mississippi... Somewhere down in Cajun country is an old family plantation known as Pittman Island that is now resting at the bottom of the river... Just thinking about those muddy swirling waters has raised my heart rate about 10 beat a minute!!

Yes this really happened... :) by Susan Spicer Mason (Notes) on Monday, July 25, 2011 at 11:18pm

I was talking to Kim on my phone with the headphones on, while fb'ing on the computer, so I could lay the phone down and type.. Told her goodnight and proceeded to remove the headphones from my head.. Didn't realize that I had at some point, wound them around my head, most importantly my ponytail.. They didn't come right off so I gave them a yank as I was getting out of the chair.. Suddenly an unseen force jerked me out of the chair, by my ponytail, I lost my balance and hit the floor jumping up and running...and yelling...trying to get away from this ghost or whatever was being very physical with me.... It scared the absolute crap out of me!!! I have had encounters with apparitions and noisy spirits.. It's the scariest thing ever.. You can't get away quick enough.. It's the fight or flight mode that kicks in and you are a crazy person fighting to get away at all costs...By now the headphone cord, (that I still don't realize is my "attacker") has wrapped around the arm of the chair... This means my "ghost" yanks me backwards into the chair and then attacked me with the chair when I tried to escape again... In the three seconds this took to happen I was in a fight for my life... I thought I was going to be calling Ghost Hunters, if I got away from it alive, to come investigate my house... It threw my phone off the desk at me when i tried to run.. Then I suddenly realized......My attacker was me, yanking my own hair with my own headphone cord and I had thrown my phone at myself because it was still connected to the head phones... I have a rug burn on my knee, my hip is very alive and letting me know I hurt it, and I have not a lick of pride left... SO, I am going to gather what small thread of dignity I may have left and go to bed.. I am laughing so hard I am crying... Funniest freaking thing I have seen in a very very very long time... I hope those of you that know me well can appreciate this story and laugh at me till you pee your pants.. Cos it's that funny!!!! If I would have only had my skype turned on, you guys, and me, could have watched it again and again... It would have been so worthy of a you-tube upload... Wow, I am exhausted... I love you guys SOOOO MUCH!!! Now laugh dangit, cos this is funny... I don't care who ya are, that's funny right there... I'm still in a fit of giggles.. Will see how I feel in the morn.. :)

There was NEVER a dull moment with you.. Not ever... Wow, I don't understand Manthy, but please know you will be missed, and you are loved... Sometimes this old world just gets the best of us... My heart is broken that it got to you... You were one of my kids... You lived with us for too many years to ever feel any other way... Stephanie for some reason adopted you when you two were only 9 yrs old... Who knew it was just the start of us never being the same.. I know ViseRoy and Possum were waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for you.. So was Penny Ruth... So was your Uncle Carl... I have had many dreams involving you these last several months... Most of the time we are just doing something but in one of the last dreams I asked you if you were an angel... You smiled at me and simply said, "YES.." I miss you Manthy... You were a crazy kid and always good for a laugh... I'm sorry things ended the way they did... You truly deserved a chance to do better... I will see you again someday...

When I Get Where I'm Going- Brad Paisley & Dolly Parton
7 years ago today, on your 55th birthday, God called you home... Judy Beth... I was so blessed to be your "nanny" those last months... I terrorized you with all the glee of a four year old... My tiara drove you crazy... I made you laugh every day and I cried with you every day... I waited until you were asleep to do any housework because I wouldn't let you be alone... Your constant cries of, "George!!! Susie's being mean to me again!!!" would put me in the floor in hysterical laughter... We solved the problems of the world hanging out on the couch and in your bed... Oh how I miss "That look" that could send us running for cover... One raised eyebrow and you had our attention... I knew when I got up in the middle of the night, with the glow of the night lights, that you were gone... That hilarious scowl that was on your face when you slept had been replaced by an angelic smile... I crawled up in your arms and cried, telling you, "You can't die today, it's your birthday..." It took me a while to reach over and shake George awake... I don't know how long we laid there with you but all too soon the flurry of activity began... It was only fitting that I wear my tiara to your funeral... Nobody would have let me get away with not wearing it... I miss you so very much... I miss your laugh, I miss getting in trouble by you, I miss listening to you sing.. I'm going to see you again my sweet sweet Judy... Keep an eye on us down here and give my dad a hug... I love you so so much... Hug Nanny and PawPaw too.. We lost an amazing human and Heaven gained an angel that has without a doubt done some reorganizing... You are probably in charge of keeping things running smoothly... Until we meet in Heaven, know you are never forgotten down here... Not ever...

He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother....

My Most AMAZING God, Your grace never ceases to amaze me... I knew on Monday that I would not be doing the prayer that night and was not in the least bit surprised when HumblEE offered to do it because a prayer had been on her heart that day... I've been chomping at the bit for two days now, since You gave me this song.... My prayer tonight Lord would be that we, as stewards of this amazing planet, would worry as much about our brother as we do ourselves... Random Acts of Kindness have the power to change this world one random act at a time... Lord, please give us the strength we need to "soldier on" every day and fight for all that is good and wonderful in Your sight... Not just in this great nation I call home, The United States of America, The Land of the Free and The Home of the Brave, but in all the lands on this earth.... I know without even a hint of a doubt that You have this and I for one am eternally grateful... I don't know how people who don't believe in You manage to sleep at night with all the scary things going on in this world... I know You are proud of me since I stopped hopping in Your lap at every little noise... I trusted You to pray and look how that turned out!! Just pretty please don't ever make me turn five... I love four so crazEE much and I'm afraid if I grow up too much, I will somehow miss this incredible view... You gave me this song a few days ago and even though it has always had the power to jerk tears out of my eyes, I also realize it is a timeless concept... I wake up every day in complete awe of You, my Most Amazing God... Lord, spread Your blanket of protection over our troops... Touch our Gold Stars in a special way so that they know a whole world of really good people pray for them every single day... Let us always strive to be the good we hope to see in somebody else... All of this I pray, in Your Most Holy Name... Amen... The road is long With many a winding turn That leads us to who knows where Who knows where But I'm strong Strong enough to carry him He ain't heavy, he's my brother So on we go His welfare is of my concern No burden is he to bear We'll get there For I know He would not encumber me He ain't heavy, he's my brother If I'm laden at all I'm laden with sadness That everyone's heart Isn't filled with the gladness Of love for one another It's a long, long road From which there is no return While we're on the way to there Why not share And the load Doesn't weigh me down at all He ain't heavy he's my brother He's my brother He ain't heavy, he's my brother He ain't heavy, he's my brother HOLLIES - HE AIN'T HEAVY, HE'S MY BROTHER LYRICS THE HOLLIES - He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother The Hollies - He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother

The Hollies - He Ain't Heavy, He's My BrotherSusan Spicer Mason Wow.... It's 3:30am and I am in one of the deepest talks of my life with God... Not about anything new, I'm just tucked a little deeper in his lap, understanding a little better what he's telling me, and knowing that he knows I get it.. As he wraps his arms a little tighter around me, and holds me ever closer to his heart, the beating of my own heart seems to fall even more in sync with his.. Then I get this message... Our God IS an AWESOME GOD.... I am blessed....

... that the answers are within you. You're chasing in the wrong field. What you are looking for is inside of you, not 'out there'. Take a few days off to become quiet and look within, and you will find it

He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother--The Hollies (Couldn't have said it any better myself...) Pray...pray...pray...and always give thanks...for the things we have...and even more importantly sometimes, the things we don't have... I have never in my life been more humbled by his Grace than I am right now, and there is no particular reason for it...Except that he thought I needed to know??? I believe with all my heart and soul that one of his greatest gifts to me was my total sense of awe and amazement at the world around me... If I can help inspire just one more person to look around them and say, "WOW!!! Just WOW!!!", my life has not been in vain... If every child of God could get just one person to "help them cry" for those that don't have a voice, we can change the world... One tear at a time... Any takers??? (From several yrs ago)

There is Grace and Forgiveness, Mercy and Healing...

Feb 14, 2010
Even as I type, I am still in awe of that fact... It's actually a song by Third day called "Cry Out To Jesus".. Today has been insane and wonderful.. My amazing husband woke me up early to see the snow falling so beautifully outside.. I stayed snuggled under my pile of blankets and welcomed the day with a smile on my face and a song in my heart, thanking God for all of it.. I owe Him everything, I know that, and yet He continues to bless me so graciously, even as I feel that my cup runneth over.. By 11am I decide it's time to crawl out from under my comfy, safe, little world.. Today was the Daytona 500 and I didn't want to miss a minute of it.. I was very happy that I decided to check out the pre-race stuff, because it was just starting when I turned on the tv.. Wow, another blessing.. I don't have to miss any of it!! The race didn't start till noon.. Who would have guessed that this race would make the record books as the longest race in Daytona history, at a whopping 6 hrs and 10 minutes!!! And we watched every bit of it.. Ya, what rednecks.. Haha!! Anyway, after I finally wandered out to the kitchen, there sits a card, a bouquet of roses, and a box of dark chocolates.. Yummmm!!!! My hubby loves me.. So, here we sit, hanging out on the couch, watching the race, with me aggravating him at every opportunity.. I thrive under such conditions you know.. He loves it but wouldn't dare admit it.. It's his ability to stay serious when I'm in the floor laughing that makes it work so wonderfully... The harder I have to work for him to crack any hint of a smile, the funnier it gets, and the more determined I become to get to him.. I eventually win.. :)

Anger management....

All I know is that I need it now and a lot of it... Coming from someone who does not have anger issues typically, I need out of this toxic relationship with anger, and I want out now... I just don't know how anyone goes through life being angry.. Don't get me wrong, I have been on the giving end of it, and while it was quite fleeting, and still talked about at family gatherings, it was very destructive.. The worst of those memories are the ones where the wrong person had to feel my wrath.. I will never be able to apologize enough to a girl with the same name as me.. The four yr old in me seems to be determined to do the boxing ring victory dance on a few episodes, and if ever somebody needed to be smacked, it was those people... That's my story anyway.. And in some weird Rob Bell sort of way, this is, in fact, about that... It all eventually ties in and tears you up.. Just when you thought you were in control, you find out you aren't... Missy quoted something from Pastor Isaac Hunter the other day about surrender.. We can either surrender peacefully, or we can be forced.. Why must I be so stubborn??? Why must it take small tidbits of postings from all directions to get my attention?? I mean really get my attention??? Missy has been holding my hand, like a mother holds a small child's hand to keep them from darting into traffic, for the last few weeks, and I'm sure she has whiplash by now.. I just can't seem to stop being angry.. My big epiphany last night came as I sent a message to a facebook friend.. It was simply, yet profoundly, stated.. "A few weeks ago I got way different thought processed in my praying.. Serious, close my eyes, block out the world, moving my lips, focused praying.. I've had anger issues since.. Imagine that.."
